چکیده

In recent years, statistical learning (SL) has emerged as a compelling alternative to nativist theories of language acquisition (i.e., Chomsky, 1980). However, in many ways the framework of statistical learning echoes aspects of classic behaviorism by stressing the role of associative learning processes and the environment in shaping behavior. How far backwards has the needle swung? In this paper, we show how a subset of behaviors studied under the rubric of SL are in fact entirely consistent with a simple form of conditioned priming inspired by models from the behaviorist tradition (i.e. a variant of RescolaWagner which learns associative relationships through time).

Reflections on Behaviorism, Cognitive Information Processing, and Constructivism in Distance Learning Introduction This paper introduces the three predominant theories of learning and instruction – behaviorism, cognitive information processing, and constructivism. Each is discussed briefly to provide a foundation for the remainder of the paper which evaluates each theory from the perspective of...

Overview of learning theories and its applications in medical education

Introduction: The purpose of teaching is learning, and learning is related to learning theories. These theories describe and explain how people learn. According to various experts' opinion about learning, many theories emerged. The paper reviewed three major approaches include behaviorism, cognitive and constructive learning and its educational applications in medical science. Methods: this pa...

Modeling Instrumental Conditioning - The Behavioral Regulation Approach

Basically, instrumental conditioning is learning through consequences: Behavior that produces positive results (high “instrumental response”) is reinforced, and that which produces negative effects (low “instrumental response”) is weakened. Instrumental conditioning plays a major role in learning, but the content of such learning might be desired (e.g. correct cause-effect association) or undes...

Evolution of Cooperation within a Behavior-Based Perspective: Confronting Nature and Animats

We study the evolution of social behaviors within a behav-ioral framework. To this end, we deene a \minimal social situation" that is experimented with both humans and simulations based on reinforcement learning algorithms. We analyse the dynamics of behaviors in this situation by way of operant conditioning. We show that the best reinforcement algorithm, based on Staddon-Zhang's equations, has...

Behaviorism and the Construction of Knowledge

This paper attempts to discuss behaviorism and the construction of knowledge. This review investigates whether behaviorism methodology has any advantages in learning a language in our classroom. This assessment also observes the critics of behaviorism and its weaknesses in a learning environment. This inquiry concentrates on the view point of B.F Skinner, one of the most outspoken behaviorism p...
